Selection is predominantly defined by material choice and then how this material can be applied to the relevant situation for the specific project.

Toughened Safety Glass with Interlinking Rail

In Early May 2016 the Ministry of Business Innovation & Employment notified the industry that they intend to amend the glass barrier requirements in the acceptable solution B1/AS1, to those requirements in NZS 4223.3:2016.

Canterbury Balustrade have systems and products to meet these new requirements and have been supplying and installing frameless glass designed balustrades in Christchurch for over 20 years.

Toughened Safety Glass with interlinking rail connected to each pane of glass and to the building. Toughened glass is stronger and breaks in a safe manner compared to normal glass. In the unlikely event of the glass breaking the glass will fracture into small safe fragments.

Benefits

  • If the glass breaks, the interlinking rail provides a barrier to minimise the risk of people falling.
  • Top edge rail capping protects the edge of the glass.

Styles

Aluminium handrails

  • Drawn aluminium profiles in powder coated finish are available for use when used in conjunction with a propriety balustrade system, it also can be used in some cases in isolation. Insert picture.
  • 45mm round soft drawn aluminium tube in powder coated finish is a very popular and cost effective designed system with the ability to be used in almost all situations (combination angle bends), thus making it ideal for the contemporary home or commercial project environment. .

Stainless Steel handrails

  • Cold rolled profiles are available in square, rectangular and round with glass cavity. These profiles can limit the use of this style in some situations and General ease of manufacture, raw material costs and a need for onsite welding will increase costs over aluminium. Finish can be either polished or brushed with the later being most partial in our experience.
  • Round stainless steel tube in various sizes ( 38mm, 45mm, 50mm) is a very popular and durable system with the ability to be used in almost all situations (combination angle bends), thus making it ideal for the contemporary home or commercial project environment. General ease of manufacture, raw material costs and a need for onsite welding will increase costs over aluminium. Finish can be either polished or brushed with the later being most partial in our experience.

Timber handrails

  • Various machined timber profiles are available in square, rectangular and round with glass cavity or various colonial styles. These profiles can limit the use of this style in some situations and general ease of manufacture and installation needs careful consideration. Finishes are limited to those specific to normal timber treatments for each specific use.
